Central Montcalm Hornets JV Can’t Catch Up To Newaygo
Central Montcalm Hornets JV fell behind early and couldn’t come back in a 22-6 loss to Newaygo on Monday. Newaygo scored on a single by Christensen, a single by Kirk, and a single by Cortes in the first inning.
Despite the loss, Central Montcalm Hornets JV did collect four hits in the high-scoring affair. Unfortunately, Newaygo had 21 hits on the way to victory.
Newaygo got on the board in the first inning when Christensen singled on a 0-2 count, scoring one run.
Newaygo scored nine runs in the fifth inning. Makenna, Christensen, Ottinger, Kirk, Hopwood, and Cortes each drove in runs during the inning.
Makenna was on the pitcher’s mound for Newaygo. He surrendered six runs on four hits over five innings, striking out 11.
Isaac Hustin toed the rubber for Central Montcalm Hornets JV. He went two and a third innings, allowing ten runs on 14 hits, striking out four and walking one. Tristan DeHart and Ethan Hopkins entered the game as relief, throwing one and two-thirds innings and one inning respectively.
Jenden McVeigh, Jordan Ralph, Fisher Hill, and DeHart all had one hit to lead Central Montcalm Hornets JV. McVeigh led Central Montcalm Hornets JV with three stolen bases, as they ran wild on the base paths with nine stolen bases.
Newaygo totaled 21 hits. Christensen, Makenna, Fauss, Cortes, Ottinger, and Kirk all managed multiple hits for Newaygo. Newaygo stole 17 bases during the game as five players stole more than one. Kirk led the way with three.
